Barry Kerr

When did you first get into triathlon ?

What was your first?

My first race was the Boyle duathlon in 2011 on a borrowed bike. I bought my first road bike shortly after and I’ve been hooked ever since.

What has been your favourite event to date?

The Phoenix park formula 1 duathlon, it’s a run- bike- run- bike- run event, the 4 transitions make it very interesting.

What would your most important tip for anyone starting triathlons?

Be patient ,you can’t expect to master all 3 disciplines immediately , it may take a couple of seasons before you’re comfortable with all three sports.

What bike do you cycle?

Planet X stealth (TT bike) and Ridley Orion ( road bike)

What wetsuit do you wear?

I’m not much of a swimmer

What sportsperson (across any sport) do you most admire?

Eugene “nudie” Hughes ( Monaghan GAA) 3 time All star winner, also Gerry Duffy ( deca ironman)

What other sports or hobbies do you partake in?

I played underage GAA for Monaghan and Basketball for Tolka Rovers and Sligo All stars.

What are your goals for the coming season?

My main race is The London Ultra Duathlon in sept, i’m also aiming to do the Dublin marathon.

What do you believe to be your strongest attribute with regards to competition, and what area do you feel you could improve on the most?

Strongest : I’m quite stubborn and won’t give up easily no matter how badly a race is going. I really need to improve on my transitions, and my swimming of course.

What are your favourite and least favourite training sessions?

Favourite: long Sat morning club spin on the bike followed by a coffee.   Least favourite : hours spent on the turbo trainer during the winter evenings.

What piece of training / racing gadgetry could you not do without?

Garmin 910 XT

What one performance to date are you most proud of and why?

Completing my first marathon in 2010.
