race 2008

lough key tri 2008
Lough Key Triathlon Club hosted our second triathlon in the venue of Lough Key Forest Park. This years event proved to be even bigger and better than last years with over 240 competitors from all over the country taking part. As one of the competitors, Philip Aherne from Dublin put it: “I have visited the park on a number of occasions but this was certainly a novel way of seeing it. My family came with me and from their point of view it was by far and away the best venue of any event I have participated in this year!” With the help of the fantastic weather, the race went without a glitch.
This year’s competition also attracted international athletes and it was ultimately Christoph Kullnig from Austria’s day as he was first man home in a time of 1 hr 7mins 14 secs. Second male went to Tim Dowling from Dublin who was last years winner and third went to Brian Mc Crystal, Dundalk.
This year the ladies overall winner was Mayo woman, Sinead Roche. Second and third went to Susan Griffin from Ennis and Mary Dunne,Ballina.
This event owes it’s success to the hard work and dedication of the race organiser, Finbarr Feely and the main sponsors, Feelystone. Sponsorship has always been a key contributor to sporting events on this event is no exception, so again our gratitude goes out to all our sponsors, particularly Lough Key Forest and Activity Park and their lovely staff, Jim Mc Grath and Crystal Clear Water, Marrey Cycles, Darren O’ Flatherty from Results gym in Boyle for his charity massages, Waterways Ireland and Triathlon Ireland. The committee would also like to thank all the volunteers and race marshalls who gave up their time to help out on the morning, without the generosity and time given by these people, events like this just wouldn’t be possible.
